Planetside 2 Playing Session

We will be playing Planetside 2 after first Main.
After some very successful gameplay on last Saturday's evening, we are going to saddle up once again to try and take over a continent. We will get together in Squads and kick some ass.

On Saturday we played on the Server "Cobalt" on the side of the New Conglomerate. We had an armoured convoy moving out of a Warpgate, we had a Galaxy transport plane deliver friendly troops into combat, we captured a bio dome and it's sorrounding areas.
Overall I thought we had some pretty great communication and we found that our skills from Arma translate very well into Planetside.

We played together as a Squad, had directions given by our Squadleader @Museman7 and that lead to us taking over quite a few areas in the roughly two hours we played. That style of play is also what I am looking for with this event. Basic communications and following orders. If we can do that, we can achieve greatness!

If you wish to partake please RSVP and let us know you're coming.

I approve, but also, if someone's interested in raising some levels and funds before that for new guns and perks, text me, 'cause I'll be doing that

I would recommend everyone tries to unlock the spawn beacon for the next session. It's a really useful item that allows us to spawn in where the beacon has been placed, like the drop pod from Halo

edit: Nvm, it is no longer required to unlock, as it has been changed to standard equipment, thanks for the info @WateryFox

Be cool if we have enough to have our own small platoon. Be a great turn out to the first planned event. @Museman7 are you planning on the redeploy fight drop strat or just go with the flow?

So with the event drawing closer, I talked to @andyt90 and @Legendo and we did some preplanning for the game to prepare. So here is what we've talked about.

  1. We will try to set up a TS room, which will stay there for the duration of the session with special settings. That will also have all the information you need to join us.
  2. We thought about Squad Layout. We want to be at least on top of it (so for example if two people are in a tank, they will be their own fireteam) and at the most we want to use a preplanned layout (2 Squads with 4-6 people each; Once we have more than 12 people, we're gonna create a third Squad. These Squads are basically Fireteams.)
  3. We will start using the in-game voice chat to get used to it, so once we get more people, communication won't be an issue.
    1. The Squadleaders will use the Platoon voice channel to plan and coordinate.
    2. The Squads will use the Squad Channel to relay information.
  4. We suggest you set up your keybinds for those two channels.
  5. We have also noticed that people kept running into enemy positions instead of using flanks. So we will be trying to avoid that.
  6. Last but not least we wanted to say something about attitude. We're trying to take this somewhat serious and we found that yesterday we were too casual. Comms and orders weren't clear and it didn't feel right. So we're taking this new approach.

If i do get platoon, or squadlead i want to do another vehicle convoy, or something similar. While being infantry is fun, vehicles can really turn the tides of a battle

Also i think they are pretty fun to do

Feedback from voicechat after the game:

  • Pilots should be slotted beforehand, esspecially for starters
  • Platoonlead should be seperate from SLs, to make it easier to handle invites Fireteams Squads etc.
  • Look at using Fireteam Radios
  • Comms went well, orders were done very fast
  • Tankers, Pilots etc, should go into their own Fireteams
  • Utilise Maxs more
  • People need to look at Roles more often, for example if there is medics needed

Slotting Tankers and things into their own Fireteams might get messy. Either you have to be tanker for the whole session, or have someone remove and add you to the fireteam whenever you wanna switch. I for example,  like to be able to change roles quickly, depending on what is needed (and what is fun)

The session went great though, and it was a lot of fun playing with a (relatively) coordinated group
