The Tanoan government recently shot down a Russian aircraft over it's airspace. After several months of diplomatic failure, the Tanoans refused to return the pilot to Russia on the grounds of spying. Russia used this refusal as justification to recover their pilot by force and launched an air and naval invasion of the island of Pulau to try and get them back. The Russians overwhelmed the island without too much trouble, but instead of leaving after they recovered the pilot, they instead chose to occupy the island. Even after requests from the UN to vacate the region, the Russians are still holding firm. The decision has been taken to remove the occupation by force, with a joint assault group being set up consisting of German, British and American forces. The British will provide the naval resources, the Americans will provide air cover and the German troops (that's you) will be the ones launching an assault on the island via parachute.

The target island has been split up into two halves, Eastern and Western. The Western half is being taken by another group of paratroopers, and is not your concern. You will be dealing with the Eastern half, we have little intel on the island's inland defences, but we believe that they are mostly older WW2 era structures. However, we believe that the Russian forces are digging further trench lines as we speak. What little additional intel we have on the island has been marked, however it is almost certain that there is more inland that has been missed. We expect any counter attacks to be focused down the Eastern and Western roads in your AO, but further, smaller attacks may come down the central pathways. The occupying forces appear to be mostly VDV troops, with light-medium artillery support. Their armoured units are limited to anything that is either amphibious, or that can be brought in by air. These vehicles shouldn't be too much trouble, provided we get the first shot. The island's runway (located in the western sector) is unsuitable for enemy jets, so any aircraft encountered will be rotary, your Wiesel tanks should have no trouble with them.

Initially, you should have the element of surprise, to our knowledge the enemy is not expecting an attack. From your LZ (at the southern end of the AO) you are to clear through the sector, and head towards the objective at the Northern tip of the AO. That objective is their command point for the island and is to be neutralised. Further intel on the four coastal marked points is as follows (listed South to North): Point 1, Small village, unknown enemy value, civilians present, avoidable. Point 2, WW2 era checkpoint, 1x vehicle present of unknown type, small infantry garrison, avoidable. Point 3, Small village, artillery present- believed mortars, civilians present, unknown garrison size, non-avoidable. Point 4, Main objective, small town surrounded by semi-destroyed wall, multiple vehicles present- IFV and APC type, medium garrison, civilians present, non-avoidable. In all cases, static guns are believed to be present, and information may be wrong or outdated. Further inland points of interest may present themselves as you go.

As well as your infantry squads we have also dropped several support vehicles. In total, 6x 1A4 MK20 Wiesels were dropped, along with 2x "Wolf" command cars containing "light" infantry resupply. Unfortunately, during the drop process our aircraft encountered AA fire (source still unknown, both missile and auto cannon type). During the drop 3 of the wiesels were shot out of the sky, and a 4th had it's crew killed but is still operational. This leaves you with 2 Wiesel crews, and a backup vehicle. The Wiesels have been provided with extra ammunition, they should now have twice the standard ammo count (1x rearm each). One of the "Wolf" command cars was dropped late, had it's parachute shredded by MG fire and has landed hard somewhere to the north. The crew are non-responsive, so if you want the resupply it contains you will have to find it. These will be your only source of resupply until you can deal with whatever AA threat is out there, any and all air support is also unavailable. The USAF jets will instead be redirected to block of any enemy jets attempting to enter the AO. Naval fire does remain an option, but it is not to be used in the vicinity of civilians or suspected civilians. The squads themselves will be moving on foot, we expect little downtime between contact, so transport vehicles were deemed pointless.

Recap (briefing without the fluff):

  • Playing as the Bundeswehr.
  • Island of Pulau occupied by Russian VDV.
  • supported by Light armour, light-medium artillery and rotary aircraft.
  • Enemy has occupied existing WW2 bunkers and is digging new trenches.
  • counter attacks expected, focused on western and eastern roads.
  • western part of the island being taken by another unit, not your problem.
  • main task, northern objective is their command center, neutralise it.
  • Secondary task, locate and destroy AA systems if you want further resupply or air support.
  • Passive task, Clear the sector as you go.
  • 4 marked points on east coast, points 1-4 = south-north.
Point 1, Small village, unknown enemy value, civilians present, avoidable.
Point 2, WW2 era checkpoint, 1x vehicle present of unknown type, small infantry garrison, avoidable.
Point 3, Small village, artillery present- believed mortars, civilians present, unknown garrison size, non-avoidable.
Point 4, Main objective, small town surrounded by semi-destroyed wall, multiple vehicles present- IFV and APC type, medium garrison, civilians present, non-avoidable.
Intel may be wrong/outdated. Further points of interest may be present inland.
  • you are parachuting in. (you start in parachutes, be ready).
  • unknown AA systems interrupted air drop.
  • 2x Wiesels + 1 spare (1x rearm each). Repair from "Wolf" cars. Refuel only available from captured vehicles.
  • 1x "wolf" infantry resupply vehicle, contains "light" resupply. 1 additional "Wolf" landed north of the drop point, needs locating if you want the supplies. (see "Secondary task").
  • USAF Jets blocking enemy jets from entering AO (see "Secondary task").
  • Naval fire support available.
  • avoid civilian casualties.
