The Charity Running Man 2035 Event is only 1 WEEK AWAY! The PR team, along with the rest of the staff team are all hands on deck to ensure everything goes smoothly! We have worked so hard to make this event happen, we've had our hiccups but we're all so excited to be bringing this event to fruition after MONTHS planning! We wouldn't have worked so hard or have persevered through so much if it wasn't for our  complete admiration for the amazing people at Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Boarders). They endure so much to bring live saving medical care to people in conflict zones and in countries affected by endemic diseases no matter the race, religion, or political association of their patients in need.

Back in July, over 40 FK members gathered in the small town of Dorking, United Kingdom, for a two day airsoft meetup. In between games, the PR team grabbed a couple of FK members aside to immortalize their presence with a picture of two. Just like our first part of this series, we asked (kidnapped) three FK powerhouse members to take a pose. Meet Fidelias, Cyanide and Sarissa.

Fidelias

This is the second time you've taken part in an FK airsoft weekend, the first one being at Shellshock woods back in 2017. How would you summarize both weekends and what made you come back for a second weekend this summer?

"Both weekends were great from a social point of view, however I felt the site and organisation of the 2019 one was much better - instead of day-long games at the 2017 meetup, we played multiple smaller games across different areas, which gave a lot more variety and a chance to have some CQB, sneaky-beaky stalking and just pitched long-range firefights at different times of the day. The site was much more 'developed' with regards to structures and layout. I came to second weekend because meeting up with people irl the first time was just great - it surprisingly didn't feel awkward at all. From the first night, it felt like it was almost that period between getting into the server and SL briefing. We just sat around, got kit sorted, chatted shit and had a laugh. Meeting a bunch of new people that I've not really interacted with (more on that later) was a real draw for the second weekend, but it was really awesome to re-connect with guys from the first meetup too."

As a long standing FK member, did you get to know a lot of new people during this meetup?

"While I've been part of FK for a while now, I kind of burnt out a little on Arma and stopped playing as often. Following that, I developed a chronic fatigue issue, which knocked me on my ass for the last 9 months and I stopped being online at all, pretty much. Meeting a bunch of great new people and having an awesome time kinda re-vitalised me a little, and I've made it back to Arma a couple of times since. We have some.... interesting people... in FK, and some of the things that went down at the weekend really highlighted how much this community brings together really disparate people with a common interest. I feel like the majority of the people at the meetup this year probably didn't know who I was, but I hope to re-introduce myself to the members of the community who have joined since I took my unplanned hiatus in games in the near-future. When the 2020 meetup comes around, I'm hoping to be a fixture in the community again."

How did you get into airsoft? Was the FK 2017 meetup your first experience?

"Yes! It was. I had always wanted to get into airsoft, and the 2017 meet was the perfect excuse."

What's the most enjoyable memory you have of the 2019 meetup?

"Getting absolutely smashed in Jay's Fuckfest. It got my heart pumping unlike any other airsoft game type I've ever played. Non stop action, that."

Sarissa

Hi @Sarissa, could you talk to us about the outfit?
"My outfit is inspired by the US troops active in Operation Gothic Serpent in Somalia, 1993. Most people think of the 75th Rangers or the Delta Force operators that were in Somalia and who have been immortalised by the film 'Black Hawk Down'. But there was another unit deployed as part of Task Force Ranger who very rarely receive any credit at all, and that is the 10th Mountain Division. These guys were actually deployed prior to TF Ranger as part of Operation Restore Hope. They were responsible for opening communication and transportation lines in and out of Mogadishu. As such, they used to roll in Humvee convoys most of the time and would occasionally ditch their Alice web gear in their vics and simply load their ballistic vests up with magazines. That's the look I went for, and instead of carrying the Alice, I just filled pockets with magazines for quick access."

If an FK member, with zero airsoft experience, would be interested in joining the 2020 airsoft meetup, how would you convince him/her?
"The airsoft is really a sideshow to the meetup, its much more about actually meeting the people you've spent months or years talking and gaming with. Airsoft is a fun addition, doesn't really hurt much and gives you some great stories. If you want to meet people then come to 2020! "

"I'm carrying an XM177E2 which was an early precursor to the M4. A few of them were still kicking around in the 90s and were sent to Somalia alongside some of the newer rifles as a testbed. I'm wearing Desert Camoflague Uniform (DCU), which is also known as Tri-Colour. The helmet is an ex-issue Kevlar PASGT with a 6 colour 'Choc-Chip' cover. The vest (that isn't too visible) is a Woodland PASGT. Gloves are the US army Nomex flight gloves, and the boots are a modern US Marine patrol boot. Actual 90's era desert boots are pretty expensive...

Secret Santa Gifts are Arriving!

Secret Santa gifts have all been sent to the post (hopefully) and are arriving at their destinations! Though the rule of thumb is to wait until Dec. 25th to open your Secret Santa gifts, FK is not known for following rules to the letter. Some are posting their gifts a bit early! Go check them out! 

Think Tank Applications

The think tank is a locked forum only staff, veterans, and selected members of the community can see. This is a forum for community feedback about specific topics the CM Team deems they need more feedback on. The CM team is looking to reshuffle the roster again, but unlike any other time before there is an application process now.

As some of you may know my real life situation is changing quite drastically here in the new year, so I will not be able to devote my normal amount of time and energy into these INTREPs as before. Therefore the INTREPs will be suspended for the holiday season and will be brought back at the start of February! Thank you all for your support and feedback and have a wonderful holiday season! Santa is delivering a fun present early this year. A new open-world singleplayer scenario, created by the ARMA 3 developers, has been released in beta. Playing as a retired Legionnaire, the region of Tanoa is hit with a dangerous new strain of malaria. Humanitarian crisis is looming and a possible plot is brewing. Together with a former military contact, you set out to uncover the truth.

The Old Man scenario drops you into Tanoa's 100 km² tropical jungle island terrain with only a few instructions. It's your own decisions and gut feeling that will decide your path. Obtain intel, gather weapons and equipment, and tackle your objectives at your own discretion. The beta version of this scenario is now available for download on the ARMA 3 Steam Workshop. As it is still beta, you can file game issues to the Arma 3 Feedback Tracker.

It is finally time to share stories and pictures of the third edition of FK Secret Santa.  Secret Santa is a gift system where members are randomly assigned a person to whom they give a gift. The identity of the gift giver is to remain a secret, adding a lot of surprise to the present itself. "This is my first time participating in the FK Secret Santa event and I had an absolute blast. Going in to the event I were actually more pumped about sending a gift than receiving, and for a little while I even forgot that there was one coming my way. When my gift arrived though, I was hyped beyond measure. To the extent that I did not even drop my stuff off inside before turning from the mailbox going straight to the post office to pick it up.

I had listed a plethora of interests and hobbies, among them my love for whiskey and said that I wanted something my Santa could come up with that fit their budget. 

Boy, did my Santa deliver! 
Upon opening the package I was faced with a handwritten note and a bottle of Irish whiskey, one I have never had before.
Of course I had to immediately give it a try, and it really hit the spot with a nice smooth taste. 

I really enjoyed this and i'm already looking forward to FK Secret Santa 2020!"

"Thanks kind Santa for this beautifully engraved dice box (also, love the smell of wood!). It has already been put to use for the housing of dice that shall be responsible for many diddlings, PKs and maybe even TPKs on one Sunday or another. Who knows, in the future it might even house the untold powers of a yet to be born hero.

Any dice that spend 1d20+10 days in this dice box with the lid closed become charged with a magical aura that makes it temporarily impossible for them to roll below their average result. Each die then gains 1d4 charges, and one is spent every time the die is rolled in order to activate the magic effect. Any unspent charges fade 24 hours after the lid is reopened. If the box is opened before the dice are fully charged, the effect does not take place and the process must begin again."

"Gift arrived on the 19th, so plenty early. Since I picked it up at the post office, I hoped I would be able to stuff the box in my backpack and call it a day. Nope! Had to swiftly open it and without looking get it into my bag.

As for the package itself, it was quite nice in idea, but Amazon seems to have dropped the ball on this one. I guess whoever was my Secret Santa requested gift packaging, but whoever was the unfortunate one to put it together seemed to forgot to put the items in the bags. Oh well.

The items were 2. A book that I am looking forward to reading, and a set of 4 gigantic metal chopsticks. Probably meant for serving. Sadly, there was no message from whoever was my Secret Santa, so I can't thank directly.(I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been Silent, but I guess I'll never know for sure.) Still though, pretty nice gift, not gonna lie. "

"I am amazed by the person who sent me this present because he was very thoughtful and original by not only sending a present to me personally, but sending something special for all my family.

Present consisted of two amazing and very comfy Norwegian wool sweater for my daugher and me and two very nice souvenir thimbles for my wife to add to her collection. I am wearing this sweater for almost a week now and it is super comfy. My daughter is also very amazed with it.

Tomo, FK's Resident Tag Collector now has one of the highest tags there is, except Server Admin! He's been with us since 2017 and a veteran since 2018. Having put in a lot to this community he's taking a step up from veteran and is joining the Community Managers.

Hi Tomo, can you give a brief introduction of yourself?

"Hey FK! If you don't know me, I'm Tomo and I'm 25 and from Wales (fluent in Welsh too!). I joined FK in March 2017, after watching a number of Cyanide's streams playing here. Arma 3 was going cheap in a Humble Bundle sale at the time (Best ~£10 I ever spent), and after a few hours with friends I jumped in here and have been around almost constantly since!

While in FK I quickly became interested in a number of roles ingame and started trying to improve at them all. This eventually lead to the ongoing meme of me having a tag in each category/discipline. I have genuine interest in each role so having them means I'm able to get priority for most all roles if they come up and I'm interested to play them. Through this I also became a trainer for 3 separate disciplines simultaneously (Platoon Leading, FAC and Zeus). I stepped away from those after some time but recently I'm back as a Platoon trainer and now as a CM I can hopefully support all trainers in their work too.

Other than Arma I'm a big fan of a few less obvious game series, including Minecraft, Pokemon and Smash Bros. If you wanna fight me in the latter two sometime then bring it on ?"

What can you bring to the table as a new Community Manager?

"I believe I can bring some more technical knowledge of the inner workings of Arma to the CM team, as well as a strong drive and passion to see our missions flourish in diversity and skill.

As a non staff member for my time here I might be able to raise or resolve issues that I believe have gone unnoticed or sidelined, instead of just bothering the CM team about them constantly!

Also while most existing staff are plenty approachable I do hope that people will be able to come to me with issues they might not have wanted to bring to others for whatever reason. I pride myself on doing my best to improve based on constructive criticism and this is a big part of how I want to be as a CM."

What do you look forward to the most in your new role?

"I look forward to working closely with the rest of the staff team as true/official colleagues finally. With them I aim and hope to keep pushing FK to newer, greater heights!

I'm also quite passionate about many Arma topics and genuinely look forward to taking a more active role in the decision making and implementation process, as it's something I enjoy! From the bottom of my heart, I am so, so grateful for this opportunity."

If you would be the glorious ruler of FK for one day, the sole CM in charge of any decision, what new feature would you implement?

"Remove BFT and GPS by default in missions and laugh as everyone got lost! ?"

Legendo, who became a moderator nearly a year ago in 2019 , has shot up the ladder from regular to Community Manager! Having also been with us since 2017, he shows his love through yelling and can now direct that love to making this community even better!

Same questions for you, Legendo, who are you, and what made you join this community?

"Well when I first join'd it was at august 2017 from watching Cyanides stream and figured this place seems worth giving it a shot and ever since then I havent regretted that decision. Then I became a mod a year ago and spent my time the best I could to improving the community as a member of staff. "

What can you bring to the table as a new Community Manager?

"I like to get the job done ASAP day 1 at least with my own assignments so we wont have to many days or weeks waiting for a responds from the team. I am interacting with the community a lot which makes me easily approachable and open minded so I wouldnt brush off any requests or suggestions so dont be shy or afraid to bring it up to me. People need to be more relaxed and open to staff and they themselves. Being a mod for a year in the FK community has learned me a lot on how its run and how the members see it and hopefully I can bring a change to that."

What do you look forward to the most in your new role?

"Keeping the community healthy and growing as much as possible since its a really big community and it needs to be treated with care. I still am gonna be the same person when I was a mod but this time being able to move the community forward with the rest of the community members not to far behind us making it a enjoyable place to be. "

If you would be the glorious ruler of FK for one day, the sole CM in charge of any decision, what new feature would you implement?

"I would bring FK into space and make the members into space marines brothers."

Garfield says goodbye to ModTeam and joins the Technicians

With the growing demand for new and exciting missions and platforms for new games, the Technicians have seen their workload increase dramatically in the last few months. With this in mind @Garfield0003 has been appointed to the Technicians which will hopefully allow some breathing room as they expand FK's hosting capabilities. Congratulations Garfield we have no doubts that they've picked the best man for the job!

Ace Medical Rewrite

Unfortunately despite the efforts of the staff and the medic training team the new system is not ready yet for use on FK platforms. We are waiting on bug fixes from the ACE team before moving forward. To keep up with updates to the ACE Medical System check out their GitHub. To see some of the issues we're facing check out the video below, at the very least it's good for a laugh!

New Arma 3 Templates 

@kMaN has been hard at work! We now have fresh new templates with one minor, yet needed change. Now in the 2nd team lead and 2nd auto-riflemen positions there is a notation stating that these slots are for 10 man squad layouts only. The hope is that this will solve some of the confusion during slotting of smaller 8 man squads. For more information check out the meeting report!

Andy's Frightful Fridays

@andyt90 will be hosting Arma 3 mission scenarios on Fridays. These missions are wave based defense modes featuring AI and sometimes even Zombies! All you need to play is base game Arma 3 (No other mods needed. sound mods + DUI squad radar are allowed). Missions can hold up to 25 players and start shortly after 1st main. Visit the discord channel #FK_3-4-5-6 under the Arma section for more information!

Liberation

The CM's put a poll out earlier this week asking the community if there was any interest in Liberation. After an onslaught of positive responses the CM team took the poll down early, and voted in favor of setting up a persistent Liberation campaign on FK 5. Keep an eye on the forums for server details as soon as they are ready!

After a successful community poll the chosen pack, Enigmatica 2 is now live! Please visit the thread here for installation instructions, tips on how to run this pack more efficiently, rules and etiquette.  Some of our favorite mods are back such as Ancient Warfare, along with some of our old favorites such as Mekansim, Tinkers Construct, and Immersive Engineering. 

Arma 3 - Trainer's News

We're currently creating a new guide to improve communication when using in-game radio systems. Platoon Lead, FAC, RTO and Squad Lead trainers are working together to provide input and will actively recommend this guide in their training sessions. The guide will cover all commonly used radio commands with a brief explanation and relatable examples to increase the efficiency of radio communications in game.     As some of you may have noticed this week the technicians have been busy switching over our server hosting FK #3/4/5/6 to a new box. With this change brings more stability, and more control. This new server is now owned 100% by FK Gaming. During this shift some IPs have been changed, and updated list of servers and their corresponding IP addresses can be found in the description of the TS room "FK #3/4/5/6", on Discord pinned in the channel "fk_3-4-5-6", or on the forums: FK 3 Liberation, FK 4 Custom Missions, FK 5 Custom Missions, and FK Minecraft.

Trainer's Spotlight - Squad Leaders Restrictions contributed by @ThePointForward
    In this article we will focus on Arma rule #14 from the section Weapons/Additional Gear:

Quote

Squad Lead is allowed to restrict all weapons in his squad as long as the restrictions will benefit squad performance or mission aesthetics.

    The Squad Leaders can actually enforce specific weapons to either make the squad look the part in a themed mission or more importantly to make sure the squad is going to be effective for what's planned for it.
    So the SLs should not be afraid to make use of this rule and we'd like to give a few examples:
        1. In a mission where town clearing is going to be prevalent, the SL can enforce M249 for one autorifleman and an M27 with drum magazines for another. The squad is unlikely to need a GPMG like M240 or a marksman.
        2. On the other hand in a mission where the squad is tasked with guarding an access road to a main objective it might be a good idea to bring two GPMGs like M240 and designate assistant(s) to the autoriflemen with spare ammunition and rangefinder to guide the shooters.
        3. Finally in a late Vietnam War mission the SL might elect to enforce M16A1s and M60s to actually look like a Vietnam War era squad. This of course can be combined by enforcing appropriate vests and headgear.

    The Medical trainers along with our Staff counterparts have been keeping a very close eye on updates being made to the Ace3 medical system. Any day now we should see an update! Unfortunately that does not mean that the changes will go live on the server right away. First testing will need to be done and settings will need to be adjusted by the trainers and staff team. Secondly, training materials will need to be polished and decisions made on how to best distribute them. We know this is taking longer than expected but please be patient with us throughout this process. We will continue to do everything in our power to make sure FK provides the best game play experience possible, it just may take us a bit of t

Liberation is a persistent campaign that can span up to several weeks, team up with your fellow community members across multiple operations to liberate Altis from small shacks up to Major Cities

The AO has fallen to the enemy, and it is up to FK to take it back;

• With up to 34 players, take to the front as a rifleman or go up the chain and direct the campaign in a commanding role
• You won't be alone out there, you'll have AI supplements to fill the ranks and keep the frontline strong
• Manage and maintain logistic lines and keep your supplies rolling, use your resources to purchase infantry equipment and vehicles
• Secure key strategic points building FOB's and setting up garrisons!
• Remember, we're here for hearts and minds, if you get on the civilians bad side its will impede our efforts
• it's not just Us vs Them out there, independent guerrilla groups will be active, it's advisable we have them on our side

FK has so far been leading the charge against the enemy, with a 24/7 Server at HQ, we can run operations around the clock, giving the enemy no break to re-organise!

Our large offensives will be planned in calendar events with intricate plans to liberate key strongpoint on Altis, but we welcome any volunteers at any time to keep fighting the good fight.

FK's Liberation follows the standard FK ruleset for ARMA missions, so keep that ambition focuses on defeating the enemy and helping the civilians

Corona Virus and how you can help

      The Corona Virus is now a global pandemic. This outbreak has and will continue to affect all of us in one way or another. Schools and workplaces are closing or innovating new ways to work and learn from home. Stores are struggling with the demand of scared consumers, and misinformation or lack of communication from our various governments is causing even more panic. The one solid fact that stands true is that we need to know more about this virus and how to fight it, and we need to know now.

Folding@Home is a program that uses the idle time of your computer to perform complex disease research. It’s easy to download and operate and will cost you nothing (except possibly a slightly higher electricity bill). 

We may just be a bunch of nerds who like to play games, but that means we have one valuable resource that most do not- computing power. Please visit their website to learn more about this program.

      "Just thought I'd say something about what possible affect COVID-19 could play on the meet up. Currently there are no plans to cancel the event but myself (Mulletshock) and @Winters are going to see what's happening and what state countries are in (lock downs or travel restrictions) closer to the time. In regards to people who have already booked Hotel and/or Travel, the Hotel booking can be cancelled 14 days before the date of the booking if you have gone for the Semi-Flex booking or (I Believe) the day before on the Flex booking and still get a full refund so I wouldn't worry about the hotel for now. However, if you are traveling and have to book something like a ferry, train or plane to travel to the meet up I would recommend talking to the company you booked/are booking with about cancellation's or what they can do if COVID-19 ends up affecting the meet up." - @mulletshock

Finally all of us introverted nerds can do what we always dreamed of, and be praised for it. FK Gaming has set up a Regiment which any FK member can join. Not only can you show off your golden [FK.eu] tag in game, you also get access to a daily double XP hour when teaming up with another Regiment member.

How to join FK regiment:

First, we want you to be for a month with us. This will allow you to see what FK is about and meet some of us.
After the month, make sure you have an Activision account (which is not the same as your Battle.net account).
When you have that, contact one of our CMs with your CoD account name (including the numbers) to be added.
The month will be counted from your forums account registration date.

Rhea steps down as PR Officer and Medic Trainer

"I've always preached that when a staff member/trainer does not have the time, energy, or want to complete their duties within FK that they should step down to allow someone else into that position who can and will. I firmly believe it is selfish to leave the rest of the team to suffer the burden of one persons inactivity. It is unfortunately time for me to put my money where my mouth is. I am approaching a huge life style change that will diminish most of my free time and require a good deal of my energy, for the opportunity to fulfil the long time goal of leaving this hell hole that is Alabama. 

It is with this in mind that as of today when this INTREP goes live, I will be stepping down from my positions as Public Relations Officer and as Medical Trainer." - @Rhea

"The website has moved to a new backend. If you are getting an error page than its probably because your dns is still pointing you to the old server. The new backend has had a complete overhaul and therefor I do expect bugs to occur while we tweak things. However in the long run it should be cheaper and easier to maintain." - @Mavy

Interview - What does the staff think about the CoronaVirus Quarantine? 

With all this spare time we all have now I took a minute to ask some of FK Gaming's staff members how they are handling this mandatory shut down. Here are their answers.

How are you spending your time in quarantine?

Working as usual, just remotely and then either gaming or spending time with my girlfriend. We just can't make trips to zoos or go out to eat for now.

How has this crisis has changed your life?

Personally, a little. Though we had to cancel some of our plans already.

Do you think things will ever go back to "normal"?

Depending on the situation worldwide. In Czech republic the government did not wait too much and managed to implement restrictions fast. It was not flawless, but in my opinion it worked. Meanwhile Italy, Spain, USA and some others seem to be on the road to mass fatalities. It will have effect on both economy and politics. So things will return to normal, but that normal will be different.

How are you spending your time in quarantine?

It feels like if I was on holiday, while still putting a few work hours from home as well. But mostly like a holiday. So lots of movies, TV shows, games, books, manga... And watching TS like a hawk.

How has this crisis has changed your life?

Well, I'm sleeping a good 8 hours every day now, when I'd usually sleep just about 6. That's a plus! However, I do miss my parents and my dog. I used to go once per week to visit them since I left their place. Especially hugging my lovely furball of a Yorkshire. I can just picture him coming at me full speed on my next visit when confinement is over.

Do you think things will ever go back to "normal"?

Yes. Unlike the start of all of this, when things happened in a heartbeat, return to normal will be much slower and gradual. A lot of people will need time to get back to how things were before and lots of things will need time to get back on track. Here, in Spain, we're in a state of emergency that has pushed back many things indefinitely. University entrance exams. Civil servant selection processes. Tax reports. Some people will probably need psychologists to some degree. So it will take time. But I also think some things will change, so not everything will be exactly as it used to. Hopefully for the better of all.

How are you spending your time in quarantine?

Not in quarantine yet. In Germany you are not allowed to meet more than one person outside of your household. People are generally encouraged to stay home. So I do just that. I stay home, I sometimes go out to meet with a good friend and I've also got school stuff to do.

How has this crisis has changed your life?

It has not affected me too much really. Shopping takes longer now. I have to work from home, which I'm not good at. I get distracted easily.

Do you think things will ever go back to "normal"?

I think so. Maybe not in the coming weeks. But this year, I'm sure of it.

How are you spending your time in quarantine?

I've been spending my time in quarantine by playing ALOT more Arma. I've also been busy with the normal Tech activities such as updated & maintaining servers, TS, website, GitLab stuff as well as helping FK with their technical difficulties related to Arma, TS, website, mission building, etc. There is quite a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes to keep FK running. When I'm not doing things FK or Arma related I'm taking care of life admin. Things such as taxes, car repairs and items on the to-do list that you always keep ignoring. My wife and I are both into staying healthy and fit so we go on a run almost everyday and on the days we don't run we go for a walk. Getting outside is important to us and definitely helps keep us sane.

How has this crisis has changed your life?

The crisis has had a huge impact on my life as much as it has everyone else and we were one of the first in the U.S. to be put on a shelter-in-place order. I'm currently unemployed until flights start returning to normal and I'm able to travel through Europe without fear of getting stuck, etc. Luckily, my wife works in the tech industry so she has been working from home for about a month already and she makes ALOT more money than I do. So basically, I'm the stay at home husband for lack of a better term.

Do you think things will ever go back to "normal"?

I am confident things will return to "normal", but I think the pandemic will be seen by many as a wake-up call. I think here in the U.S. where we never go without wanting, the average American is getting it's first taste of items missing from store shelves. Something that I think hasn't happened since the Great Depression in 1930.

The Medic Training Team is thrilled to announce that @griffin68965 is taking over for @Rhea as a Medical Trainer. Griffin has been working closely with the Medic Training Team for a while now on the new ACE3 update and was the perfect fit to allow for a smooth transition of duties. Please congratulate him next time you see him. 

Training Events

The Medic Training Team would also like to remind players that testing/training events will be up on the calendar for those interested in learning and using the new ACE3 medical settings. It is a big change, but the more you play the easier it will be when it goes live on the main Arma 3 server. Even if you are are not interested in becoming a tagged medic please come join these missions. Your feedback is needed to ensure this update will fit into FK's play style.

@Mavy has been a fierce and strong leader for FK Gaming for over 3 years now. He helped found this community along side Greybeard and has been here ever since. It is with a heavy heart that we announce today that Mavy will be stepping down as Admin of FK Gaming. 

Mavy has chosen not 1 but 2 of FK Gaming's finest members to take his place as Admins. @Mittens and @Whiskers will now be leading this community as a partner Admin Team. This decision was not an easy one, and took months of planning and discussions. "It's just the clearest option. They are loved by the community as a whole, they have the means and knowledge to upkeep the servers, and frankly... I'm bored" Mavy said to the PR team in the weeks leading up to this announcement.

Change is always difficult, and saying goodbye to a figure head such as Mavy is heartbreaking. Yet, Mittens and Whiskers have already begun their overhaul of the community to steer it in a more "friendly atmosphere" for it's members. With these changes our new Admin Team hopes that this new community can be celebrated as a "welcoming, family friendly environment".

As many of you have surely heard, the new ACE medical rewrite update is around the corner. The Medic trainer team has released multiple new guides on how to keep your squad alive. Necessary knowledge for any Medic tagholder, it is also very helpful to all boots on the ground as we undergo a major change in the way we play. It could save you a lot of painful trouble out there, so don't try to tourniquet your neck. Take a look at the guides, and keep your eyes out for training events on the calendar to help bolster your knowledge.

INTREPS will now be released on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. We're hoping this change will bring about bigger, more in-depth articles and allow for more interesting topics!

A Message From the Community Managers

The Community Managers would like to remind all members of the community to report any person witnessed breaking community rules regardless of their status.

The Community Managers want to stress that EVERY report of rule breaking is taken seriously and investigated fully and impartially. Nepotism, and favoritism will not be tolerated. If you feel that any member of this community whether they be an FNG, Veteran, or even a Community Manager has broken any rule you have a duty to report it. 

Every staff member in this community is a volunteer who dedicates their free time to ensure this platform runs smoothly. They are human beings who endure stress, and suffer through bad days just like the rest of us. Though we thank them for their contributions to FK, that does not mean that they are treated any differently than anyone else when they break the rules. 

There are multiple ways in which you can make an official report, please choose whatever one is most comfortable for you.

Any players currently admitted to these groups will be grandfathered in. This is to protect the FK Gaming brand from being abused by those who join only to harass, grief, and break rules. Hello folks, today I'd like to write a short message to the community regarding things I've witnessed being said to the staff team in the last month or so, and from general feedback I've had from the staff team.

As the "admin" for FK now, my main responsibility is managing the day to day technical jobs that FK requires, however I also find myself trying to ensure that the staff team can perform their jobs as easily as possible, and are as low-stress as they can be. After all, every staff member is a volunteer for this community, and simply want FK to continue to be a fun and happy place to hang out, talk smack to friends, and play games in. What I've found in the last month (and that I saw as well during my time as a Technician) is that there is a select few members of the community that try and make staff members lives hard, continually challenging them over the smallest things, acting as if they are above other members of the community, and generally not treating the staff team with a basic level of respect I would expect volunteers who work to make the community to be better - to be treated.

So consider this a gentle reminder to anyone who thinks they shouldn't be treating staff with basic levels of respect, that you should be. I have heard plenty of stories lately of staff members feeling that all their work for the community gets critiqued a lot for tiny, mundane reasons, and if all the work you did was treated like that, I'm sure you'd feel the same. Remember that even if you don't agree with something in the community, you can work together with staff to highlight your questions over a piece of work/staff decision, rather than start critiquing it without any effort to fix the problem.

Staff keep FK running, and do a lot of work people don't ever see in the background to keep the community a fun place to be (I can confirm this, sitting in on 3+ hour staff meetings every week), so make sure you remember that going forward.
And as an extra reminder going forward, I want to highlight a saying I think still holds true today, said by some of our original founders Mavy & GreybeardRalph a long time ago; "The time you spend in FK is a privilege, not a right".
I know staff members have to put up with a lot of things they shouldn't have to, and I know first hand that it has been extremely hard on them at points. I am happy to advise the staff team going forward that if a community member is causing more harm than good in regards to causing problems with staff for no justified reason, they will be told to sit outside of the community for a period of time to think about all of the work that the staff team do for them, for the good of them, and the community.

To wrap this post up, if you do appreciate the work that the staff team do for you, and raise any issues you have in a straightforward and sensible way to them - thank you. You are the kind of community member that I know all of the staff team enjoy working for, to make your time as happy as possible whilst hanging around here. I'm sure just about everyone reading this post is that person. But take a moment to think of the work the staff team does and the fact that they are human beings too, just like you.

Andy Steps Down

          It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that @andyt90 will be stepping down from his roles as CM and Squad Lead trainer. He will remain in post for a few days after this announcement to tie up any loose ends. Andy has served as a staff member since Moderators were first introduced. He has been with the community through thick and thin, and has had enormous resolve to endure all his positions have thrown at him. We would all like to thank him a hundred times over for the time and effort he has put into making this community a better place for all, and look forward to continuing to hear his shouty squad leading for some time.

Basic trainer tag

          Basic Trainers now have a tag! @ThePointForward @Jerichron and @Monocled Badger now have a dedicated tag for Basic Training. This tags is for the trainers only. There will not be a "basic training" tag given to thous who have passed training at this time. 

Squad Lead Training Changes

          @Monocled Badger Has been promoted to Squad Lead Trainer along side @BigT and @Servok. We wish him well in his new position. To request Squad Lead training or evaluations please fill out this form.

          Command Training - PLT and SL now have their own shared training discord. If you're interested in SL or PLT training, or have a question for the trainers you can join their discord here.

          Starting this week, the two "trainer herders" @Tomo and @ThePointForward will be conducting a trainer review. This review will include speaking to each trainer individually and asking a number of questions to check up on how they are coping. Trainers, expect to be reached out to shortly. 

Meet-Up Update

2020 Meet-Up Officially Cancelled

         " So pretty much the inevitable time has come to say the 2020 meetup is going to have to be cancelled. As it stands anyone coming from outside of the UK would need to go through a 14 day isolation and IMO if it was UK only people I believe we would struggle to get the 15 required to book the air-soft site (if it even reopens). I will be contacting John to inform him as he hasn't indicated our booking was cancelled at all yet due to circumstances. We will probably wait until this whole Corona issue dissipates to make any decisions/announcements about a 2021 meetup, but hopefully with this years being cancelled more can make it next year for an even bigger and better one! It's always a good thing to see when community members go out of their way to show appreciation for a staff member who has gone above and beyond the duties of their roles. That's what @Servok did in the community feedback forum in a thread aptly named "kMaN you a Fucking Great Cunt".

kMaN joined us as part of the BSO merger back in Oct 2018 since then he has been the keeper of the boxes, the restarter of the servers, and the go-to guy when something just isn't quite working right. kMaN responds to any request or question with immediate action. We are blessed to have this man be a part of FK Gaming and are thrilled to call him a part of our Staff. Thank you for all you do kMaN!

Team Lead/2IC changes 

Since getting his role as Squad Lead Trainer @Monocled Badger has been busy at work updating the training guides. In his article "Team Leader Tag & Process Changes" he states:

"As a result of the modern template being 10-man with 2 fire-teams, the old 2IC tag was grandfathered into the Team Lead role. However after discussions with members of the  community and the other Squad Lead trainers, there is a concern that the grandfathering and conception of the 2IC role does not fit the current role of a Team Leader - additionally there is often confusion of what the Team Lead role exactly does and their place in the Squad due to the grandfathering/conflating it with the 2IC role that previously existed.

We seek to remedy this by two methods.

1. Publish Material on the role and responsibilities of a Team Leader
2. Change the evaluation process for Team Leader Tags and slightly alter Squad Leader Tag acquisition as a result."

@Hyxogen joins the RTO Trainer Team

He will be available immediately to schedule RTO training sessions or evaluations, alongside the current RTO trainers. CSAR Tags have been removed

After months of discussions, the Medical Training Team has decided to do away with CSAR Tags. With CSAR missions being few and far between, and the role requiring no more medical knowledge than that of a medic tag holder- the time has come to retire the tag. The new slotting procedure for CSAR missions will proceed as follows:

• The leader of the CSAR group:
  1. Medical and leadership tags (both at the same time)
  2. Medical tags
  3. Regs+
  4. Everyone
• Regular CSAR team members will be slotted as medics

CM Applications

Discussions continue in the Think Thank regarding the Community Manager applications. We thank all the veterans, staff, former staff, and other Think Tank participants for their input on these applications. Think Tank discussions will be concluded Sunday the 28th of June. Voting will then commence among the current Community Manager Team, the Moderators, and the Admin. There is no solid date when a decision will be made, but we can expect to hear something a week after voting begins. 

New Public Relations Officer

@Deltabacon has been appointed to the position of Public Relations Officer. He has hit the ground running and has already completely overhauled our Twitch and is currently organizing our very first siege tournament with the support of his co-workers in the PR Team. Congratulations Delta!

We could sometimes sit until we were kicked off by his mum (like midnight, but whatever), and would continue the next day when we woke up. We want to be able to take our time to congratulate those who put in the work and have earned their tags. Medical Training Team Update

The surge of new medic evals and training sessions has been handled and @griffin68965 has stepped down, allowing @FloofyFloof to be appointed to Medical Trainer.  Though things have been rocky for the Medical Training Team here recently, the training team and the staff team are confident the hardest part is behind us.

Due to this our next INTREP will come out on the 13th of July - and that will be the ONLY issue for that month. INTREP schedule will return to normal in August.
