Operation Gothic Serpent

Situation

The year is 1993 and with growing unrest and the government ousted Somalia is under control of several warlords. The most prominent one being Mohammed Farrah Aidid who is using fear to hold onto his share of the country. He has claimed the country’s capital Mogadishu and cut off all access to main ports and airports in an effort to hold onto his territory using fear. The local populous has no real means to basic needs like food and water with most of our aid packages being seized too.

The US and UN have intervened. We have attempted to liberate Mogadishu and with-it Somalia and have been successful in taking the airport and port. With a FOB established we made good groundwork. However, Aidid launched a propaganda campaign against us claiming we have come to conquer the country. This is anything but the truth, however, this view is not shared by the populous of Somalia.

Intern this has led to us no longer making any progress in restoring peace to this country. We have worked with the local warlords and many of them have chosen to help us install an elected government. However, Aidid has refused. On the 27th August, we launched Operation Gothic Serpent which focused on capturing Aidid, in turn, disabling his militia (called Habr Gidr clan).

We have had some success with lightning raids on several of his Lieutenants. However, we have unconfirmed reports of a meeting in the city to which several of Aidid’s top lieutenants will be present possibly including Aidid himself. This is a golden opportunity to end the conflict here and now and with a routine snatch and grab this operation should be completed in an hour.

Brief

Your objective is to secure the target building and any targets inside. They are not to be killed. After you have secured the area exfill them back to base via the trucks provided by the convoy.  As of right now, we do not know where the target building is, but we are working with our informant to get confirmation before you get your green light.

Its advised that the assault goes in three parts.

1.    Delta Force Operators land near the target building using the little bird, breach and secure targets.

2.    Rangers and rest of Delta Force in the Blackhawks land and secure a perimeter blocking off anyone escaping from target building.

3.    Rest of the Rangers move in with the convoy to extract targets and friendlies back to the airbase.

A route has been marked for the convoy and this is the safest possible route to the target city. Venturing further north will mean we will be deeper into Adid’s territory increasing the chance of losing the element of surprise as well as being bogged down in conflict getting to the city.

If we spook the targets too early, we run the risk of targets fleeing the area before we can detain them.

Convoy should always stick to the road, this counts for double inside the city as traveling off-road or cutting through courtyards/gardens will likely lead to you being bogged down or assaulted leaving the convoy vulnerable. If the enemy see you doing this, they may also mine or prioritise destruction of the front vehicle in order to halt the convoy in these narrow streets.

Nobody can leave the airfield until the codeword “Irene” is passed to platoon by command. That will signify that the operation of a go.

Assets

  • 2 x UH-60M Blackhawk
  • 1 x MH-6M Little Bird

If any pilots get shot down and survive they will need to be rescued and brought back to base for a new bird. (Note this will get you your asset back for free)

Convoy

  • 4 x M1025A2 (M2)
  • 4 x M1025A2 (Unarmed)
  • 3 x Ural-4320

Hostile Assets

We will be fighting the Habr Gidr clan, these men will have access to militia equipment and vehicles. Do not expect any armor or helis, they will use sheer numbers along with technicals to bog you down and overrun you. Suicide bombers are unlikely along with mortar fire however they are not ruled out. They have also been known to mine areas especially open ones.

Respawns

  • 2 x Infantry
  • 1 x Raptor
  • 1 x CSAR

Respawns will be flown back into the AO by Raptor

Fail Conditions

  • If all objectives are not completed within 2 hours in the field (ie finish by 9:30 pm)
  • If the Platoon falls below 30%
  • If the majority of the targets are not extracted alive

General Rules

No GSP, Only allowed unpowered binoculars (called Binoculars) and SL does not take a LR. If you are a pilot and you get shot down attempt to autorotate don’t just crash and die to easily get back into another bird.
