++MISSION BRIEFING++ “It remains a stubborn fact that the percentage of the countryside which is dominated or threatened by the Viet Cong continues to grow.” McGeorge Bundy, White House security advisor, 1965 In response to NVA attempts to cut the vital supply line along the River between Nong Khiaw and Yen Tinh, command has approved a large-scale operation to secure the river delta and the immediate area upstream. Large numbers of NVA units, seeing our military buildup, have intensified attacks in the area and have been visibly fortifying the zones of control they hold at the river crossings. Your objective is to secure the three primary river crossings intact or otherwise, to secure our line of supply to the north and eliminate NVA activities in the area. Multiple fixed-wing and rotary elements have been allocated for this operation, and ground troops and armor will provide the muscle we need to hold the ground taken. Objective #1: Che River Base. NVA Marines and regular army units occupy Che River Base with its fortifications at the water line blocking any attempt to move supplies North along the river and its Troops able to interfere in any movement on Attapeu to its North. Anti Air batteries have been reported within the base and entrenchments have been seen to the west of the base blocking the approaches and providing a ring of protection to the Anti Air Sites. Enemy Composition: Strength: Estimated Company Strength ( 180 - 200 Soldiers). Armor: Up to BTR-40. AA: ZU Emplacements. 1x SAM Launcher Confirmed. ARTILLERY: Light Mortar Emplacements, Anti Tank Guns Guarding the Shoreline. Objective #2: Attapeu/Bridge. Enemy Composition: Strength: Estimated Platoon Strength ( 40 - 60 Soldiers). Armor: Up to PT-76A One Seen in Attapeu more probable. AA: ZU Emplacements (Che River Base). 1x SAM Launcher Confirmed (Che River Base). ARTILLERY: Light Mortar Emplacements (Che River Base), Anti Tank Guns Seen at the Eastern Bridge crossing. Objective #3: Nong Khiaw/Bridge. NVA Army Troops and Armor occupy the town and its bridge preventing movement in the area and providing an backup blocking force to Che down river. NVA Armor appears to be occupying fortified positions North of the river and are preparing to engage any approaching units from the south. Additionally there appears to be activity in Dao Trai however we have not been able to identify what units may be present there. Enemy Composition: Strength: Estimated Company Strength ( 180 - 200 Soldiers). Armor: Up to T-55. AA: Unknown. ARTILLERY: None. Noted Areas: MSS Leghorn, Area Surrounding Gjua Ho. MSS Leghorn is our primary outpost in the Area of operations and it currently may be used to forward deploy Troops and Armor if you so choose. At this time however patrols in the area have indicated increased NVA activity in the Jungle east of the outpost and appear to be increasing in number. Recommend reconnaissance of the area to determine Enemy Troop strength and to prevent interference with the planed operation. Further action may be necessary. Strength US: Company Strength (40 Soldiers). Strength NVA: Estimated Strength (Unknown). Armor: Unknown. AA: Unknown. ARTILLERY: None. ++BRIEFING COMPLETED++ MISSION SUMMARY: This will be a heavily themed mission with elements taken from the Vietnam War The mission will be making use of the Arma 3 mods UNSUNG REDUX, S.O.G.
